The UN is developing a Guidance Note on Child Rights Mainstreaming

The UN is developing a Guidance Note on Child Rights Mainstreaming to reinforce a holistic child rights perspective across the UN system at a global, regional, and local levels. This was prompted by Child Rights Connect's 2021 position paper (https://childrightsconnect.org/a-child-rights-response-to-our-common-agenda-endorse-our-call-on-the-un-to-put-child-rights-at-the-core-of-its-action/ ), co-signed by CRC Asia that was responded to by the UN Secretary General that “a holistic child rights perspective must be reinforced across the UN system at a global, regional and local level”.

The development of the Guidance Note is on-going, with spaces for civil society and children to provide inputs. Kindly encourage children (below 18) to respond to this survey by 30 September 2022. Their input is vital to the development of the Guidance Note on Child Rights Mainstreaming. Please note that children may respond to the survey individually or as a group.  Here’s the link to the survey

SYMPOSIUM: Child’s Right to Identity in Emergency Settings

Description

The Institute on Statelessness and Inclusion, Child Identity Protection and supporting organizations are pleased to convene a Symposium focusing on “The Child’s Right to Identity in Emergency Settings”. This symposium will delve deeper into the challenges of protecting and preserving identity rights, including nationality rights, for children on the move and children affected by armed conflict. This event seeks to examine how children’s identity rights are undermined in emergency settings, the increased risk of statelessness and the need for urgent action on repatriation, reintegration and reunification of children affected by armed conflict. Featuring experts from the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, the Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary General for Children and Armed Conflict, UNICEF and UNHCR, alongside a diverse group of organisations, activists, and persons with lived experience, the event also seeks to identify best practices from the field and stimulate further action on these issues.
